Selling Your Home - Exterior

One of the most important things when trying to attract potential buyers is ‘curb appeal’. Everything from the flower beds in the garden, to the oil stains on the driveway to the dirty marks on the windows.

Garden
First and foremost, and the easiest thing to do is to mow the lawn, this will neaten up your garden no end. Next is the flowerbeds, remove weeds and turn the soil over, break up large chunks of mud into smaller pieces. Edge the flowerbeds; create nice clean, clear lines to define where the lawn ends and the flower bed starts. Maintain shrubs and bushes, make sure the bushes are cut to a decent height and are neat. Check all of your fence panels too, replace any that are badly damaged; they may even need a quick lick of paint.

House
Clean the windows, inside and out! Are there any cracks in the brickwork? If so, if you’re competent, repair them your self, if not, ask a friend or relative who may me able too. Make sure the front of your house is clean; all gutters are in place and clean, fascias and so forth. If you have white UPVC windows like the majority of houses, make sure these are clean as they show up any slight mark on them, also if they have gone slightly yellow over the years, try and restore them near as possible to white – no body likes yellow looking window frames.

Driveway
Oil stains from that old car? Have a look around for some specialist cleaners. Try to get rid off all stains/marks. Remove all moss or grass that may be growing on or around the driveway. As with the house, try to have any cracks/break-ups filled or repaired, if there only minor, then you or a friend/relative should be able to fix it, otherwise it may be to costly to hire a builder, it will be your choice and up to you if you think its worth it.
